Twenty-One Days And Counting: The Post-Nanny Life

I've complained before that my nanny was sub-par yet expensive, and that I suspected her of stealing from me, and I believe I also mentioned that I fired her sub-par ass not too long ago.

Which leaves me and only me to care for the babies after school; not that I mind too much. They are, for the most part, low-maintenance girls (an oxymoron, I know). And the new after-school program where I enrolled N is perfect for her- homework help and sports... that girl is in heaven right now.

What I didn't count on was the fact that I can no longer run errands or hang out after work. Those days are officially over. No more mid-week dates or meetup.com events. No more combing through the Burlington Coat Factory racks before I hop on the train. It's all over until K is of an age where I feel comfortable leaving her alone with her crazy sister at night.

Because I can just picture leaving K in charge only to find her tied up in a corner under N's evil reign...

And now all of a sudden I have a whole slew of things to do and no help! N has to go to the dentist because she was eating some damn Starburst and her cap came off; she also needs to have blood drawn for her routine physical. There are a few half-days at her school coming up and I have no coverage for that, either.

I am officially on lock down until the next school year. Damn. I should have thought this nanny firing through a little bit more...

But I suppose it's worth it if I get to leave work an hour early (thank you JESUS!) and I save $210 a week.

*smooches...looking forward to the summertime more than ever now*
-------------
funny story- I let my landlord know that we let the nanny go; know what he said? "Good! She played the music too loud anyway!" LMAO!!!

meanwhile, I got K's report card and the grades have gone up except in Technology, but I didn't beat her ass this time... we're working this out calmly for now. she knows what's up!

Damn $210 a week! for them prices you can just save the money and go on a kid free vacation.

Hell, if I could get someone to take care of my every need for $210 a week I'd quit dating and hire me a nanny.

Wait, is that sick?

@homer & wendy- actually I paid her $300/week... to sit on my couch and read a book and play on my computer and drink all my milk. $300 a week. And she was constantly late picking up my daughter.

I wrote $210 because the afterschool program is $90/week... and she gets to play sports and dance and see her friends and learn to play chess.

And Wendy... yes, that is kinda sick, but if you did it I'd be totally jealous! LOL

OMG - she's learning to play chess? I so LOVE her. Chess is so much fun. (thus saith the nerd in me)

Let me see - I pay $160 a week for FULL TIME DAYCARE for one kid and $140 for after school care for the other kid, and they go pick her up in their little old daycare facility bus. *AND* they teach them things and let them spray shaving cream all over the table and get all gooped up and in the summer they play in the sprinkler.

And like that sprinkler, you was gettin HOSED.

And since I do believe she was stealing from you, I am still awaiting receipt of her name, physical mailing address, including zip code, her height, weight, the color of hair and the list of names she answers to ...

@jack- I don't call her Nerd, Jr. for nothing...

and I know I was paying her too much, but the circumstances under which I hired her didn't allow for haggling; I just had to deal with it. What I FINALLY refused to deal with was her shotty service.

AND I'm not sending you her information you crazy loon!! Her "accident" would trace back to me too easily LMAO!

Man, $210 a week is cheap. I have to find some daycare for Olly in the Fall for 2 full days per week and I don't even know how. It's bad enough that it will be expensive. But I also have to contend with the fact that my daughter won't go to anyone, even family members. Sheesh! How did I get such a needy baby?

Now you can put that $210 toward something useful, like towards your girls weekend away fund. LOL!

If you need help with appointments, just call me and let me know. I am free the month of May. But I have school in June and July.

@irene- try mommieshelpers.com (I think that's the URL)... that's where I found the nanny I had before this one and she was wonderful; plus they do all the background checks, etc for you. It's $75 to register with them, and I think the average nanny is about $15-$17 an hour... that's what I was paying.

you can put up your own ad looking for a nanny, but then you have to do the background check yourself for each one; that can get costly; they cost almost $30-$50 a pop. I've been there...

If Gary has FlexSpending at work, he can have money taken from his check pre-tax for childcare expenses... it saves money in the long run.

I'm like a freakin expert on these things already, and not 'cause I WANT to be! LOL

Thanks for the offer; if I can get her in to see a dentist this month I will let you know! :)

I must've missed the nanny post...you had a nanny..that twitter joint doesn't make you feel weird?

And what do I have to do to make the reading list?

The Jaded NYer said...

@lou- yes, I've had MANY NANNIES since 2006 when I moved into my own place... nightmare, I'll tell ya, and I'm not even one of those rich Upper East Side mommies!

I like twitter... it helps to calm my Adult ADHD, and I can vent in under 150 words whenever someone pisses me off. That way I don't waste a blog post on nonsense LOL

and LMAO at the reading list!! I haven't updated it in months, but you know I read your page all the time, even if I don't comment!

when I re-do the site this summer rest assured that you will be in the blogroll, my dear :)

Uhm what the heck is Technology? I think K needs to get a pass on that because that doesnt even sound like a real class

And yes dependent care is the best thing EVER! I am so happy I signed up for it.
