An Overdue Good-bye

Before I get to the post, I want to introduce you all to the newest addition to the Jaded family:

Her name is BeBe (pronounced like that Winans chick dude) and she's the bestest bike EVER! I had a helluva time getting her home, seeing as I can barely lift a sack of potatoes let alone a bike, but I did it and I love her and I can't wait to get my helmet so I can ride her all over Prospect Park!!

And can I also mention the cutie who was sitting next to me who was asking about the bike?? Very "Antonio Banderas" from Desperado, with an accent and everything... At first he was complimenting the bike. Then he wanted to know where he can get WiFi in the Slope. Then I stopped listening because I was picturing him naked.

He also told me where he lives (near the Avenue I stop) so maybe I need to ride BeBe down his block ala Ducky from Pretty in Pink...

OK, enough cyber-drooling. Let's get on with the show, err, post.

**********

Man, I can hardly remember the last time I was out of NYC... oh, wait- yes I do! It was my trip up to MA with the BMW and the vomiting and the bungee jumping. Damn that shit was fun.

Anyway, that was hella long ago.

So I'm packing my shit and headed to DC to visit my baby sis; I need a fucking break from Brooklyn. I mean, I love this place, even more so now that I got BeBe, don't get me wrong, but sometimes, man, I just need to go!

Anastacia - Overdue Goodbye

Do you realize I've been living in this apartment since '06? My gypsy blood is itching to be OUT already- I can't sit still! That's why I force myself to take these lil breaks... to appease the gypsy. She wants to be out and about, and I gotta be reminding her, "Sweetie-pie, I need to work to pay the bills; I don't have time to go to Mystic this weekend. And NO we cannot go to LA this year so chill the fuck out; we will go in January as planned!"

Yeah... exactly. Bitch be trippin.

So don't look for me in Greenwood this weekend, 'cause I'll be chillin in our nation's capitol, plotting on how I can get Mari to agree to moon the White House with me.

**********

But before I'm out out for real, here's the flier for Monday's radio broadcast. And no, I won't leave y'all hanging this time; I have a standing shrink's appointment for the rest of the year every Monday so (hopefully) there'll be no more breakdowns!

Monday is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, so we're pushing Jack's show to the 22nd and starting with Mari.. she and I are gonna shoot the shit about DR & Haitian relations, so you know you're gonna want to tune in.

Why? Because Mari is a super smart Cornell graduate who studied this shit, and I'm a super smart MFA holder who lived this shit. So basically, we know our shit.

Just listen, okay? Damn!

*smooches...so outta here that it ain't even funny*
-----------
there's something so soothing about being able to say, "I'm going away for the weekend." Ahhhh, I needed that so bad.

That is a great bike. I need to find a seat for CJ so that I can roll him all around town before the snow hits.

Have Fun in DC. Me and the fam are leaving for MD in the morning.

Awesome bike. You're a braver woman them me. I rode for the last time way back in the late 90s. It's safter for the rest of the world (and me) if I stick to my own two feet.

Sometimes you have to get away so you can come back and remember why you love this place so much.

Or you can do what my mom used to do when we were kids, move the furniture around. The longest I've ever lived anywhere was the first seven years of my life. Since then, my longest was four.

How did Mom keep that wanderlust at bay? Whenever we'd get back from visiting my dad, we'd find that the living room had a new setup or the cabinets in the kitchen had all been rearranged. It's a cheap way to make your home feel all kinds of new.

@clnmike- thanks! I kept waiting for him to ask my name & number, but I guess he was only interested in the bike... *sigh*

@the f$%k it list- if you feel the need to escape the fam while you're down there text me and me and Mari will come and rescue you! LOL

@super dave- I'm glad I found one, too! This bike search was driving me crazy!

@kelly- LOL @ you and bikes... I feel like there's a story there... I'll wait to get you drunk and drag it out of you!

and my apartment is so small that the furniture can't really be moved around. But I am in the market for some new textiles from Ikea- a rug, some curtains, duvet covers, etc- so maybe that will help.

@pcd- LMAO!!!! um, well, um, as you can see, um I don't really pay any attention to gospel music! Thanks for catching that.

CLEARLY no one else cared enough to tell me I was wrong! (side eyes to all of you) HMPH!

(I'm editing the post right after I leave this comment... mistakes make my head hurt lol)

I was going to point out the BeBe and CeCe mix up ... I have one of CeCe's CD's in the deck in the car. But it seems PCD beat me to it.

Now, re: the bike on the subway platform. Couldn't you've been riding it home? I mean, that's why you bought it right? And don't give me no helmet excuse - it would mess up your hair.

And re: Antonio - send him to my blog. I'd love to meet him.

Unless he's uncut - in which case, leave him on the train or on Avenue I or wherever "them" people hang out.

Wow - I *really* digressed there, didn't I ...

lmao - girl Bebe is NOT a chick... that's the brother... Cece is the chick in the winans family... that was funny!

The Jaded NYer said...

@jack- I was waiting for your smart-ass remarks...

NO I was NOT going to ride it home, partly because of not having a helmet but more because

1- I don't know my way home on foot- I have a general idea but not the direct route... I was not about to play trial and error on the streets of Manhattn
2- I'm afraid City traffic
3- I'm CRAZY out of shape, and here you go wondering why I didn't ride from MIDTOWN WEST to damn near SOUTHERN BROOKLYN...

...you must've forgot what page you're on... HMPH!

And you cannot have Antonio!!! STOP taking all my boyfriends!!!!!

@eb- girl you know I don't go to church... lol

The Jaded NYer said...

@rich- it will be an interesting show, so definitely listen in.

as for the October event, I'm guessing you mean the book event. Unfortunately, I'm busy that weekend. But you guys enjoy my City, and I'm sure someone will post pics afterwards.

I came to terms with my clumsiness long ago. I was living in Athens, OH and riding my bike into campus for an internet study. If you participated, you got $10. Halfway down the hill on which I lived, I wiped out - partly in the berm and partly on the road. Got road rash all over both legs and arms. But I walked that bike into campus, begged for something to clean myself up, and participated in that damn study. And I got my $10. I so badly needed that money.

That was my second wipeout in as many weeks. I had already put down my skis, roller skates, etc. The bike was put up for sale as soon as I got home.

Again, the world is much safer when I'm just on my own two feet. And, even then, you might want to be on the lookout. Grace is not a word often used to describe me.

Your list of excuses was cute.

The Jaded NYer said...

@kelly- wow. okay, I'm convinced... you are soooo not allowed anywhere near a bike from now on LOL

@jack- vete pa'l carajo, OKAY?!?!

Amber "Bam" Cabral said...

Yay. I love get-a-ways.

So you are at like 89% now right?

Oooooh gurl, that bike is a beaut! Welcome to the club - have fun my dear.

And I can't believe that you didn't get me, the white Irish catholic British chick living in Canada, to be co-hosting your show on Hispanic Heritage. This is an outrage!
