I get bored a lot in my tiny apartment, and yeah I could be cleaning or writing but that sounds too much like work. And when you ALREADY spend the entire day writing for pay, writing for fun kind of loses its luster. "Be careful what you wish for..."
So one boring day, just for fun, I looked up the meaning of my name. I'd done so in the past, but every reference is slightly different so I look it up a lot. (GOD! I sound sooooo pathetic! I swear I'm tons o' fun. For real. Do not judge me by this blog post. Please?)
And because I'm obsessive-compulsive like that, I looked up my family's names, too. For those that know us, tell me what you think- were we given the right names?? HA!
I'm a Precious Lamb (stop your snickering RIGHT THIS MINUTE, CARAJO!)
K is a Wise Child
N is Pleasant and Delightful
Mami is Merciful
Titi Gloris is, well, full of Glory
Minnie is the Goddess of Wisdom
Mari- Bitter or Bitter Sea (for Mariel)
Papi is He Who is Like God
Grandma's name means God Has Healed
My wack-ass biological father's name means Protector. What a cruel joke.
And Mari's dad's name mean's Reborn. Into what, I don't know.
So that's my tiny nuclear family.
What about you- what does your name mean?? Does it fit you? Why or why not? I'm dying to find out!!!
*smooches...easing you into the weekend with an interactive post*

Celia means Heaven. Eden means paradise. Douglas means dark river. And, I was wondering when this fascination with names and naming would end. Apparently never. Two months after naming my first child I'm still looking at baby naming sites and trying to find inspiration in the roll of credit names after movies. I've found that everyone involved with movie production have very boring names. And researching names and naming unborn children is more fun than laundry.
My name means 'the one with the long dark hair' which, yeah, is obviously appropriate for me! In Irish mythology, Muireann was a mermaid that was caught by a fisherman who took her to a Saint and the Saint baptized her into a woman. Oh the crazy Irish. But for what it's worth, I am a pretty good swimmer.
Irene is derived from the Greek word for Peace - shyeah...right!
Gary is derived from the German word for Spear - that just sounds perverted.
Olivia is derived from the Latin word (Oliver) for Olive - leave it to me to name my child after food. LOL!
Zoraida is derived from Arabic meaning "enchanting woman" - Bwahahahah. Evil maybe, enchanting no.
David means beloved. Its the 13th most popular name in the US. which means I can hide pretty easily.
My first name is actually a family name as my great aunt (I believe that's the connection, either that or grandmother) was Margaret Kelly. My grandmother came here from Ireland when she was young.
I've been to Ireland and Kelly seemed to be like Jones over there.
The name is derived from the Irish given name Ceallach or the surname derived from it Ó Ceallaigh. Ceallach means "war" or "strife" or also "bright-headed." After a solid five or six head injuries in my life, not sure how much that last meaning relates to me.
I actually just found all of that out, when I went to search for name meanings. I grew up knowing it to mean warrior or defender.
I have 2 baby name books that I've had for years. People always side-eye me when I happen to know what their name means.
First name means palm tree.
Second name means victory of the people.
So together, I'm Victory of the Palm Tree People.
The fact that they put you as precious lamb lets me know not to even try it.
@celia- those baby name books are so addictive so I feel your pain! I still look through name lists too, even though this baby factory is out of business lol
@bangs and a bun- wow, so your name fits then... awesome!
@irene- LMAO @ your mom's name... yeah, Nana messed up with that one!!
@super dave- and why exactly do you need to hide? HMMM?? lol
@kelly- I love the meaning behind your name; cool!
@gem- I totally know your second name... it's my daughter's second name, too! lol
@clnmike- you know what? I'm done with you!!!! HMPH!!!
JACK means God is Gracious.
SPOT ON!
@jack- um... how about NOT???? lol
My full name means "heavenly bird". I like it!!
