Dear Raquel,
Thank you for your recent submission to the Apple Valley Review. I'm sorry to let you know that your short story, "On a Blue Day," was not accepted for publication.
However, this is a particularly subjective business, and I always appreciate the opportunity to read new work. Please feel free to submit again in the future, and thanks again for thinking of us.
Best wishes,
Leah

I'm so sorry! But it's just one response and there are so many other publications out there. Don't get discouraged.
Well, you're allowed a little wallow. I think any of us are, but you can't let this beat you. You're a wonderful writer of beautiful words and she's right ... it's a subjective business.
Make her regret her rejection. Keep submitting and someone will recognize great talent when they see it and, one day, Miss Leah will wonder how she ever could have say no.
I got like 2 or 3 rejections before my first story was published. That's just how it goes. Make sure you are sending your writing to publications that publish that sort of work.
Their loss. One day, they'll look back and wonder how they missed the opportunity. Keep pressing on.
I agree with Tyrone. When we're looking out of the penthouse offices of the clock building in Brooklyn we'll scoff at this while toasting your success.
No mourning in Brooklyn SON!(I mean unless a person dies but yeah...)
