The parade soon come... even though I slept through j'ouvert, I shall be on the Parkway enjoying the food and festivities in a couple of hours.
Yes I am a Brooklyn native.
No I've never been to the parade.
Yes, this is my first year attending the Carnival parties and such. Better late than never, right?
Oh, and if you're reading this and saying to yourself, "J'ouvert? Parkway? What is she talking about?" then this post is not for you. Have a Happy Labor Day and come back tomorrow when I'll be talking about my butt or something.
*smooches...excited for my first Parkway experience*

I haven't been to one in a bit, but you can really feel the Caribbean energy there. This post reminded me of my first (and only) one when my brother (from Miami) decided to drop by. It was crazy because he really wanted to get into some trouble. I was on the opposite end of that. He kept noticing the island flavors. I was making sure I didn't lose my nephew and the other kids in our group. Then, there was a point where we all just stood there and took in all the sounds without saying a word.
Until we got bumped by a crew of flag-wearing divas. Then we got tired of the nonsense and went home. Still, I'd recommend it for single people and people with big families. Seriously.
The costumes are fantastic and there is celebration in the air ... but it's a lot of people. A LOT of freaking people. Last year, it took me three hours to get to my sister's place and it usually takes me maybe 20 minutes.
Hope you're having fun though. Looking forward to pictures and stories!
